Day 9:  The Very Large Array National Radio Astronomy Observatory in New Mexico.  I'm interested in astronomy and have long-wanted to see this.  There are 27 telescopes arrayed in a Y-shape across an area the size of a city.  Each telescope is the height of a nine-story building, and each was constructed on site. When an astronomer wants to change the configuration, a big machine on tracks picks them up, one at a time, and carries them to a new location.  These telescopes were featured in the movie "Contact," starring Jodie Foster, a few years ago.
