A (closed) corner grocery store in a quiet neighborhood. Too bad it didn't make it. Every good neighborhood deserves a corner grocery.
When I was a child growing up in southern California, we had a corner grocery store, Bower's Grocery, run by Mr. Bowers. He was a very nice man and kind to kids. He learned that my middle name is Henry, and that I didn't like my middle name because boys with the name King Henry get teased a lot. He said, "Well, Hank is a nickname for men named Henry." He suggested that I go by King Hank--and that's what he called me after that. |
