Narrowboat, Garmin GPS

One of my favorite travel toys, my Garmin global positioning system (GPS).

Although my GPS was not programmable with detailed maps of England, I loaded coordinates for numerous points along the canal before we left home. I got the coordinates from www.streetmap.co.uk.

I corrected the GPS when we actually arrived at the pre-marked positions. The letter "U" displayed on the screen indicates the coordinates I entered for Ellesmere--a little off, you see, but less than 1/2 mile.

The "bread crumb trail" indicates the path of our travels over the canal. We were clipping along at an unusually speedy 2.9 m.p.h. as I snapped this photo.
