Narrowboat. We are passed by a Canaltime rental

We are passed by a Canaltime rental shortly after mooring for our first night on the canal near bridge 34 just outside Trevor.

Here begins the record of our boat trip. After receiving instructions on the operation of NB Cheryl (NB for narrowboat), our transportation and home for the next week, we left Chirk Marina around 3 p.m. I was too anxious to get moving and too busy learning how to steer the boat to take any photos right away.

It wasn't too long before we crossed the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, which Pearson's "Welsh Waters Canal Companion" calls, "...quite the most astonishing feat of canal engineering in the world, carries the canal one hundred and twenty feet high across the creaming waters of the River Dee." I have a fear of heights and the slow traverse of the Pontcysyllte was a time of high anxiety (pun intended) for me. I had no intention of taking any photos while I was of in danger of falling to my death and wondering why our heavy boat didn't cause the entire structure to collapse. Here are three photos of the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct that I gleaned off the web (with apologies to the photographers whose names I don't know).
